Notification Process for Coworker Illness

(updated July 26, 2024)

Employees with any influenza-like illness are asked to stay away from their office or work location. Open and transparent communication between staff and management is the best way to reduce any fear, uncertainty, or doubt about employee health status and current working conditions. We rely on you to talk to your supervisor when you have questions or information to share. Staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19 must continue to follow current SwRI protocols and contact the Medical Clinic at 210 522 2220.

  • When an employee does report a COVID-19 potential illness, the following steps are taken:
    • The SwRI Clinic staff will obtain onset of symptoms, provide on-site COVID testing or COVID testing kits, schedule appointment with on-site physician;
    • If positive for COVID-19, an email notification is sent to management with isolation period and return to work;
    • If needed, facilities staff will quickly, but thoroughly, perform a special cleaning of potentially contaminated work area(s);
    • SwRI Clinic staff will work with management to track potential and confirmed cases; management will notify all potentially affected staff members.
    • Immediately notify your supervisor of any COVID-19 health concerns including that you are seeking medical assistance for COVID-19 symptoms or that you had close personal contact with an individual (e.g. family member) that has a personal illness that is being investigated as potential COVID-19 related.

Following these procedures will help minimize potential staff exposure and get the message out quickly to those possibly impacted should a potential exposure occur. The bottom line is we want to reduce uncertainty and concern for all staff members during these difficult times. Thank you for your continued diligence to protect the health of our staff and your dedication to our mission.
